Video: Oklahoma witness spots cigar-shaped UFO

An Oklahoma witness near Tulsa reported watching and videotaping a cigar-shaped object “descending in the western sky,” according to testimony in Case 69200 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

“I was driving home from work on Highway 169 northbound,” the witness stated. “I noticed it slowly descending in the western sky during sunset. It was falling slowly enough to catch my attention.”

The witness pulled out his cell phone, took a photo and then began recording video.

“I recorded it for a little over two minutes. When I got home I showed it to my wife and she could not identify it. I posted it the next day on Facebook. It attracted lots of attention. Multiple people recommended I report it to this site. It may simply be a passing comet, however it’s glow never dissipated and it did not give off a tail/trail behind it.”

The case was investigated by Oklahoma Field Investigator Eugene N. Zavodny who closed the case as an Unknown.

“Photo and video were made with a Samsung Galaxy S3 cell phone,” Zavodny stated in his report. “The photo was taken while the witness was driving north on U.S. 169 at approximately 41st Street S. Neither the photo nor the two minute video has sufficient resolution to make out any details on the object.”

Zavodny described the object.

“It appears to be cylindrical with the axis vertical; the length about three times the diameter. The top end of the object was not sharply defined.  Because the video was taken with the car moving it is not possible to tell if the object was moving other than that it was slowly descending. The object was behind scattered low clouds, indicating that it was a considerable distance away. The witness lost sight of it when it descended enough to be behind buildings and trees.”

Editor’s note: There is a strong consensus among readers that the image in the video is a contrail of an airliner. I have actually seen something similar on several occasions. Bruce Maccabee, a former optical physicist with the US Navy and MUFON consultant wrote:

…short contrail from a high flying jet traveling away from the observer and at a great distance in the west and illuminated by direct sunlight at sunset (contrail higher than the clouds and clouds are dark because they are too low to be illuminated by direct sunlight)…the contrail itself may be quite long but when viewed from a large distance behind the perspective makes it appear short.

  1. Excuse me for spoiling the fun, but isn’t it obviously an aircraft contrail! Sometimes when the atmospherics are right the contrails evaporate as quickly as they form, resulting in a short, stubby trail… just as this is doing. If it were doing all kinds of crazy manoeuvres I might be wondering if it were something else, but clearly it isn’t, it is just an aircraft contrail and I would put money on that being backed-up by the aviation authority, whom I am sure could place an aircraft in that portion of the sky at that particular moment. We really must use logic before jumping to crazy conclusions, or, allow experts to have a look and give possible answers before leaping to the wrong conclusion. After all, the object is clearly more defined at the front (near where the aircraft will be) and less so at the rear where it is evaporating. Many of us have seen genuinely out of this world sightings, but lets not press the ‘aliens’ button every time anything unusual appears in the heavens, please.

  2. That’s only a jet flying in the stratosphere with its contrail lit by the setting sun. lol The lower sky is dark because the sun is partially blocked by the horizon and lower clouds making the contrails appear brighter. I see this Every Night. Have MANY PHOTOS of this same thing.
I have a REAL Cylindrical UFO video. Google – CYLINDRICAL UFO OVER SW OKLAHOMA and it should come up. Excuse the language, I was kinda freaked out. ?

  3. I’m from the Tulsa, Ok area and looking west at that time of day especially towards the fall season. The video shows a contrail from a jetliner heading east from west. The jetliner more than likely took off from OKC airport. As it entered the cruising altitude approx 20-30 minutes after take off the exhaust from the jetliner produced the white contrail. I’m 99% sure if it.

  4. you know, i wasnt going to comment but then i came back and decided to. you have to be kidding posting this. i have better objects shot myslef that i dont even consider sending in, thinking nothing conclusive and you cover this? guys camon. i have seen a hundred contrails form jets in a particular position going into sunlight. why not post a frisby flyin thru the air too? dont loose it guys we need you.
