Russell Crowe made news earlier this year when he tweeted pictures from an alleged UFO sighting he had four years ago. Last week he tweeted a video posted by Jesse Ventura of Canada’s ex-Minster of Defense Paul Hellyer talking about UFO cover-ups at the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure, a mock-congressional style hearing in Washington D.C. that was held in late April into early May of 2013.

Hellyer has been claiming for years that he was made aware of the UFO cover-up by a U.S. General, whose name he will not disclose. In 2011, he spoke at the International UFO Congress about UFOs, global warming, and the world financial system.
Crowe is currently starring in the latest iteration of Superman, Man of Steel. It has a heavy UFO and alien theme and is much more Sci-Fi than past Superman movies. There are scenes of the military tracking a UFO that turns out to be a spaceship filled with bad guys from Krypton. The public watches the drama on the news, and onlookers in some parts of the world can see the bright UFO in their night sky. There is even an X-File type sequence when the military finds an ancient spacecraft under 20,000 year-old ice.
This summer is full of Sci-Fi and alien themed movies, and has prompted several tweets and comments on the topics of aliens and UFOs from the stars of the movies. The buzz these remarks make help garner attention for their hopeful summer blockbusters, but also shine light on what might be a diminishing of the taboo to discuss these controversial topics.
