Investigators offer explanation for UFO recorded in Pitlochry, Scotland

On November 5, 2012, Adrian Musat recorded video of a UFO hovering over the forest area of Clunie Wood north of Perth, Scotland.

The Courier reports that Musat, who lives in the Walker Court area of Pitlochry, first observed the bright object from his living room window at approximately 7:30 am. He saw the UFO again at approximately 5:30 pm that evening, but this time, the object emitted pulsating light. He estimates the flashing UFO was approximately five meters wide, and claims the object’s colors were constantly changing.

Musat took his video to The Courier, then subsequently sent a copy to the British UFO Research Association (BUFORA).

But on November 14, the BBC reported that BUFORA had identified the UFO. According to the report, BUFORA is “confident the light was actually within the trees and not above them.” The organization concluded that the mysterious object was simply a “spotlight on a forestry vehicle.” According to the BBC, “The Forestry Commission has confirmed it had tree-felling operations under way in the woodland at the time.” The Scotsman reports that a Forestry Commission Scotland spokesman said, “We had a team in that woodland doing harvesting at the time. They were using a cabin-mounted light as they were in the area before full-light and after dark – they do a long shift.”

Before the Courier published the initial story about this UFO, they posted the following message on their Twitter account: “We had a serious power cut tonight. Ahead of our exclusive Pitlochry #UFO story. Coincidence? Or conspiracy? See Tuesday’s paper for more!” Although this comment was most likely made in jest, there are sure to be many who suspect something much more spectacular than a spotlight was recorded by Musat, and is therefore being covered up by the Forestry Commission and others.

So what do you think? Does the object in Musat’s video look like a “spotlight on a forestry vehicle,” or is the true identity of the UFO something else? Share your thoughts with us by leaving a comment below, or by posting on our Facebook page.

It’s an out of focus light. I use video cameras a lot and as you can see while this person zooms in on the light, the person forgot to use the focus feature. what a joke to see this on a website like this wake up people.

That is precisely what the article says.

    That’s amazing!
By that logic, anytime I here of a car wreck on the road I’ll instinctively know what caused it because I drive all the time…
Fact is; you can call what you think it looks like, you can call what possibilities exist for this light, but declaring it what you want because you don’t have to own up to your statements is worthless.
Try this next time… (since you found this joke so appaulling), since you work with cameras all the time, prove it… Bring your own evidence to the table… Rationaly… And save Jason and everyone else on this website the trouble of having to point out what the article says.

All I said was that it was an out of focus light and this is correct. There’s no need to get angry about this even though I stated the obvious. I just found it strange that a decent website like this would report on something like this when everyone knew it was just a light out of focus. How this so-called ufo story even got in the news is beyond me and how any person could think it was a ufo is beyond me as anyone can plainly see that the person was not physically able to use the focus on the camera. Why report on a terrible story like this in the first place ? I like this website but as I said… I left a comment in regards to this light so there’s no need to attack me just for this. Why waste the time and effort adding a webpage to what is quite obviously an out of focus light ?.

    Hey Mick,

The reason we sometimes post on stories that might have obvious explanations to some is because a lot of the general public who are not as interested in the subject come to us to find out explanations to things the mainstream media reports on…it’s not necessarily obvious to everyone. This story had a lot of press so we felt it important to post on and offer an explanation for those who were looking to find out more.

We appreciate your comments as always.

Just because the camera is out of focus does not mean this could not genuinely be a ufo.

I recently witnessed my first / second ufo, the night before halloween, in myrtle beach south carolina. it was a breath taking experience. my first sighting , i saw something similar to the shape in the video, only it was darker than the sky, with a series of orange lights on it that did not appear man-made at all. It weaved in and out of a cloud bank over the ocean, made no sound, and was gone within 30 minutes.

Roughly ten minutes later, there was something much larger emerging from behind the very cloud bank the first sighting was in, this oblect then proceeded down the coastline at a slow rate of speed, towards charleston.
It was a series of six small circular white lights in the shape of a crescent moon.

Before I saw this with my own eyes I may have screamed “hoax”, but I have to give this video the benefit of the doubt now.

I am a firm believer that we are not alone, and due to the increasing frequency of public sightings, i feel like chances are high that these extra-terrestrial, or extra-dimensional beings will be making contact with planet earth soon.

Nice video, but i think its important to consider if it is an optical illusion, was the object moving, i couldn’t tell from the video , also i didnt see anything to compare it to so i was kind of lost looking at it. I noticed anotjer light to the lower left too. Was the video shot through a thermal pane window if so it could be a relection from another light that causes it to look like there is a light out there. I am not seeing the light attached to a boom from a truck and i would personally find that theory insulting if i had shot that footage. Anyone who is seeing this light attached to anything is a brain dead idiot, maybe a reflection that could be.

The videotaping was not done well i agree but it seems like a good unit to adjust so clear on a closeup view from what seemed so far away which was pretty dramatic to say the least,it looked like a shelled walnut which is a common sighting. It would be important to get a more detailed report from the man who saw and videotaped the event from an experienced investigator in person at the site, and have them check the footage.

I would not bother with the authorities other than a formal report for the record, worldwide they have shown themselves to only want to lie to us and stick their head in the sand and ignore what realistically is phenomena so incredible that it defies all logic, we the people have to find the answers ourselves which is happening all over the globe , so when any govt. Official shows up tell them to go to hell we’ll do it ourselves but kindly thank them for their interest
