Super star planet hunter, Geoff Marcy, has been credited with finding nearly three-quarters of the first 100 exoplanets discovered with the Kepler space telescope. Now he has sought and been awarded a grant to search for ET spacecraft and an alien laser based internet.
Marcy is an astronomer at the University of California at Berkeley, and he has no doubt that there are other intelligent civilizations somewhere in space. He told the Sydney Morning Herald, “The universe is simply too large for there not to be another intelligent civilization out there. Really, the proper question is: ‘How far away is our nearest intelligent neighbor?’ They could be 10 light-years, 100 light-years, a million light-years or more. We have no idea.”
Planet hunters like Marcy use the Kepler telescope to observe the dimming of a star to calculate the presence of planets. However, Marcy wants to use this same technique to look for irregular patterns of dimming that may indicate it is not a planet passing in front of the star, but possibly a gigantic extraterrestrial spacecraft.
I do know that if I saw a star that winked out, then at some point it winked back on again, then winked out for a long, long time and then blinked on again, that that would be so weird. Obviously that wouldn’t constitute the detection of an advanced civilization yet, but it would at least alert us that follow-up observations are warranted.
The Kepler telescope has been damaged and can no longer make observations. The telescope, which is 40 million miles from earth, began failing in May. Marcy says this has been heartbreaking to his team. “People are reacting a little bit as if a close family member died. There’s this combination of severe depression and confusion, coupled with denial.”
However, there are reams of data that Kepler has retrieved that has not been analyzed. Part of the $200,000 grant he received is going to be set aside to pay a Berkeley student to develop software that will look for the telltale dimming in the Kepler data. Marcy says, “Writing the computer code is not easy. There’s no prescription in any computer science book about how to search for aliens.”
The remaining money from the grant will go to lease space at the Keck Observatory in Hawaii to look for an extraterrestrial laser based internet. The Keck Observatory is the largest telescope in the world.
While SETI is searching for radio waves, Marcy believes that a technology more advanced and precise, such as lasers, would be a more likely method of communication for an advanced alien civilization. Using the Keck Observatory his team will look for beams of light flashing from distant star systems.
Physicist Enrico Fermi asked the question that if there are so many intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations out there, “where is everybody?” Although SETI has been unsuccessful in their search, they plan to keep working at it. Currently they have a large radio telescope array under construction outside of San Francisco. Paul Allen has donated over $30 million dollars for its construction.
Marcy agrees that the chance of success, however slight, is worth the effort, and hopes his alternative to traditional SETI methods will prove fruitful.
When asked if he fears discovering a Death Star in space, Marcy replies, “The first thing we do is transmit a message to them that says, ‘We taste bad.’ “
I joined seti sometime back..but i hav forgotten…Anyway..i think i may know where there is a buried spacecraft…….not sure i am just saying..because of something i saw one night…..may indicate..there is one there..hidden…..But since no one from mufon or any of these other so-called ufo investigators…..never bother to get back with me..or even make an attempt to contact me….then why should i bother..
Hey John… ^ there… got facebook? hit me up. lets look into this phenomena
All this money and time being spent when anyone with their naked eyes sans PhD and mega million dollar telescope can go out in their own backyard on a clear night and observe ET lightships. They are already here, and the easiest ones to observe are the ones that superimpose themselves over existing stars. There are many, many of these here, and if you are patient and focus your attention on one of them, you will see them start moving about. If you spend enough time looking up, you might also see slow moving (slow walkers) lightships that can be distinguished from satellites and planes by their ‘water bug’ type movements. Also, they turn on and off their lights sometimes; slowly like with a dimmer switch, so that is usually a big tip off. You might also see a very fast moving lightship (fast walker) which you might think at first is a meteor; however they have ways of making you realize that what you are witnessing is not just a meteor, e.g. by the timing, angle and placement of the sightings. Also, if you are very, very lucky, a pilot might just flash their very bright white light at you!
It’s hard for me to believe that some of these astronomers spend all of their time looking at the sky and yet they see none of these phenomena? They don’t pay any attention to what is going on with guys like James Gilliand or Steven Greer, and yet they are called ‘experts’??? Perhaps they might lose their precious funding if they were to reveal what they really know.
Sending out signals via SETI must be a running joke with our ET family. While possibly some folks involved here are well-intentioned, it is oh-so naive to think that we, as a species, are the apex of human development and technology in the entire Cosmos. It’s time for our scientific community to face up to the facts and get their collective heads out of their asses to see that yes, there exists higher dimensional, telepathic, galactic visitors, both humanoid and not, that have been here for EONS, and that most indigenous earth people have been aware of this for many moons as well. So you don’t need to send up radio signals or even laser lights. They know where you are, and when you look up in the sky they can tell what direction you are looking in. They can cloak their ships, they can make their ships appear like a cloud or an entire cloud formation, and they can read your thoughts. So send up thoughts of love and a desire to connect with them, and they will respond positively to this. I have had some of my most profound viewing experiences coinciding almost precisely when I am in a deep state of loving, or bliss, and they have acknowledged that on more than one occasion. Why do think Greer utilizes meditation and related techniques to ‘bring ’em in’? Once our scientists learn to combine science with the spiritual, then we will truly start being a galactic society. Let us all roll out the red carpet for our other-worldly visitors. They should be treated as honorary, if not original, earth citizens. And we can all do ourselves a favor by starting right now to break the habit of calling our galactic family ‘aliens’. And one more thing…pay attention to your dreams. If you do not possess strong psychic abilities, a common method for contact is through the dream state. This is how it will begin for most of us. Before “Disclosure” there is “disclosure”. Pay attention…It is real.
Peace + Love
