That is the logical choice, employing a shield that neutralizes the effects gravity that affect a craft you want floating under computerized guidance control; thereby the size of the craft is about as useful as submarine [saucer shape for example] under water. Having a great enough source electricity to drive a sonic or microwave type force field to keep the wind or any element from affect the surface of the craft, would indeed eliminate the friction the causes audible sound from the craft at any speed, the solid objects rubbing against the craft’s shield would for sure give off a visible spectrum at a certain high speed, from the heat of air or any other element’s friction, but if the element is being held a bay at a distance from the craft while it is in motion, there is no force pressing against the craft then, the force is being kept at bay from it, thus allowing the craft to move freely in any direction–there is no force being applied to keep it from doing so. There would not be any noise either being generated either because the elements are being kept at a fixed position when they encounter the drive that is keeping them at bay–there is temporally no element motion until the craft has left the area it occupied. No air motion, equate no sound generated. An atomic fusion reaction reaction would provide substantial thrust.
