Irish given credit for Californian UFO video

The popular British tabloid, The Sun, posted a UFO video purportedly from Dublin, Ireland that has managed to hit mainstream media here in the US.  However, the true history of the startling footage lies in Fremont, CA.

Original video

The video is a greenish hue and shows a triangular formation of lights cruising through the night sky.  It flies in an arc, and can be seen above the city lights.  Although the Sun proclaims it is a new video, it was originally posted on YouTube on December 5th, 2008.  The person claiming responsibility for the video has said the green hue is due to the fact that the video was taken with a night vision system that could also pickup infrared light.  In fact he says that although the object looks bright compared to the stars and other objects, it could not be seen by the naked eye.

The Sun may have gotten the location of the video wrong because of a previous YouTube UFO video that gained popularity last year, which was supposedly from Dublin, Ireland.  This video showed an object with lights in a triangular formation beaming a laser out of one end.  It was a dramatic video, but as is often the case with exciting videos like these, it turned out to be a fake.  It was later revealed that the video was created as part of a contest to create fake UFO videos at UFOContest.com.  The video won first place.

UFOs being filmed with night vision device recently gained popularity amongst UFO researchers, largely due to the efforts of Ed Grimsley.  He claims to have been seeing UFOs battling in the night skies above California since he was a kid.  Now, with the aid of military grade night vision devices he films these strange craft, and even takes people out to the desert to see for themselves.

At the Mutual UFO Network’s 2008 annual symposium in San Jose California, Grimsley took Coast to Coast AM’s radio host George Noory out to skywatch with the night vision goggles.  Noory covered the event on his show. He and other MUFON attendees were amazed by what they saw.

The Fremont video is now making the rounds of US media.  FOX News covered the story, and MSNBC interviewed Nick Pope about the video.  Pope investigated UFOs for the British Ministry of Defence, and said on MSNBC that it is one of the most interesting UFO videos he has ever seen.

We will continue to investigate this video and fill you in with our findings.  However, with the growing number of UFO videos using night vision technologies, hopefully more people will be inspired to monitor the night skies.  Let us know what you find.
