Three former members of the U.S. Congress are scheduled to listen to five days of testimony on the topic of UFOs at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. later this month. According to Stephen Bassett, the organizer of the event, former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel from Alaska, former U.S. Representative Carolyn Kilpatrick from Michigan, and former U.S. Representative Merrill Cook from Utah, have all signed on for what Bassett is calling the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure. The witnesses will include UFO experts and military officials from around the globe, and the spokesperson for the event is Apollo Astronaut, Dr. Edgar Mitchell.
The names of the former congress members were just released today. Gravel was a senator in the 70s, but ran for the democratic nomination for President in 2008. He did not have strong support in the Democratic Party so he switched to the Libertarian Party in hopes of obtaining their Presidential nomination. He did not gain their nomination either, but has remained a Libertarian. Gravel was instrumental in getting the Pentagon Papers into the public record in 1971. Kilpatrick is a member of the Democratic Party and served as the U.S. representative for Michigan’s 13th congressional district from 1997 to 2011. Cook is a businessman from Salt Lake City, and as a member of the Republican Party, he served as the U.S Representative for Utah’s 2nd district from 1997 to 2001.
The hearings are scheduled for April 29 to May 3, and will be streamed online in several languages for a fee. The public can attend the hearings for free, but seating is on a first come first serve basis.
According to Bassett, the former congress members are not going to be asked to formally share their thoughts on the testimony they hear, nor will they be required to respond if asked.
As to the goal of the hearings, Bassett says he hopes to “bring about the formal acknowledgement of an extraterrestrial [presence] by world governments.”
We are trying to create a critical mass event that will launch several major outlets into investigatory mode and start asking the obvious questions of the obvious people. If that happens, the truth embargo will likely not last through the summer.
This hearing is a shill just like Bassett. It has no support of any of us in the UK because we can see it won’t make a difference. Forget the idea if it bringing attention to the UFO subject, you won’t get nothing from this hearing and you are being laughed at loudly from across the pond…
I only wish that I could speak more about this. My fellow astronauts feel the same way as I do.
I agree these hearings dont do much good other than bring awareness to the public but laughing at the US whistleblowers and insulting those who are trying to open people’s eyes is just ignornant. Mr. Aldrin and the other respected individuals with first hand knowledge of whats not being told to the public deserve mad props for coming forward with what they know at the expense of ridicule and incredulousness.
Hey Alan, you sound like you want us to think that you represent all of the UK. If you want to remain in the dark ages, that’s your choice, but let others speak for themselves, if you please. I’ve seen many very well known and highly respected people speak of what they know to be factual. They’re not looking for fame or fortune. They’re just trying to get the truth out. But, you already know that, don’t you? You’ve offered no proof about anything you say, but they have. Enjoy!
I love the kooks they’ve managed to get to attend this … if this doesn’t turn into a laughing stock event …
“The hearing panel will be headlined by former congressman Merrill Cook (R – Utah) who was once banned from his own party’s offices after a profanity-laced tirade and was famously plagued during his few years in Congress by reports of erratic behavior leveled by his own staff. “Merrill has taken up permanent residence in whacko land,” Cook’s chief of staff Janet Jenson wrote in an inter-office e-mail in 2000. ”If he asks you to fax his underwear to the speaker’s office, please just do it.”
Joining Cook will be former congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R – Maryland). The 86 year-old raised eyebrows in 2004 when he attended a Unification Church event to receive the “Ambassador of Peace medal” from cult leader Sun Myung Moon who, afterwards, declared himself the Messiah as Bartlett watched in delight (enjoy this video of Bartlett groveling in front of Moon).”
