Arizona witness videotapes red lights UFO over Mesa

An Arizona witness at Mesa reported watching and videotaping two red lights in a vertical position moving northwest to east, according to testimony in Case 46492 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness videotaped more than 15 minutes beginning at 9:50 p.m. on March 16, 2013, from a second floor apartment complex along Lindsey at U.S. Route 60.

“I was going to close the blinds in my daughter’s room when the incident occurred,” the witness stated.“The reason I find this interesting is that there are two red, vertical lights that slowly moved from the northwest to the east. Possibly coming from the Anthem, Cave Creek area headed toward Superstition Mountains.”

The witness was comparing light colors to known objects.

“An aircraft is supposed to have green lights on this side. Red was the only light visible throughout the whole recording and it was steady and never rotated or moved out of position. At about 11 minutes into filming the top light begin to fade and then went out. At 15 minutes, 20 seconds, the second light began to fade and then went out. Near the end of the filming I do show an aircraft landing at Falcon Field.”

The witness has an aviation background.

“I have 21 years in naval aviation as an Aviation Ordnanceman working on fixed and rotary wing aircraft and their weapons; and six years in the aerospace industry. Three of those were manufacturing military helicopters and three were in Iraq and Afghanistan as a contractor with numerous Army Medivac Units. I have been in combat situations both in the Navy and as a contractor. With all this said, I know for a fact these are not military flares or other ordnance. As far as an air ship, balloon or other type of aircraft, I am 99 percent sure it is not. I do not know of any aircraft like this or that has formation lights like this and/or then extinguishes itself. There were no clouds or haze this night. It was a comfortable cool air. As far as a shape, I could not tell. I did try to look for something that would identify its shape and transparency but did not find any evidence of it. It was too far away to determine if it had a sound. I can only guesstimate the object(s) were 8-10 miles from me.”

Field Investigator Sandra Anthony investigated for Arizona MUFON and closed this case as an Unknown.

“Another sighting of most likely the same object from that evening was filed as Case #46242, which occurred at 9 p.m., Anthony wrote in her report.“The field investigator, Snow, concluded that it was an Unknown. This investigator also determined that there were three additional reports of this object that were not reported to MUFON.”

Anthony also noted weather information during the time of the sighting: 75 degrees, 3.5 mph winds out of the east-southeast, clear sky.

“Wind direction would not indicate sky lanterns, etc.,” Anthony stated.

UPDATE 6/9/2016:

Editor: Although this case remains an unknown, Arizona MUFON Chief Field Investigator Dennis Freyermuth does have another theory as to what these objects may have been.

He writes: “There is a possibility what this person captured was two satellites that travel in tandem mapping the earth in 3-D. It is a German program called the TanDEM-X mission. It consists of two satellites flying in a tandem formation, data from each radar system will be used to build a digital elevation model of the earth over the 3 years of the operation. The mission launch was June 21, 2010 from Baikonur. The two satellites are in a low orbital distance, 514.8 km, the distance between the two satellites is between 250 and 500 m.”

Freyermuth says he has not been able to verify the flight path on the day of this sightings, but it remains a possibility. Still, the objects have not been positively identified, so the case remains an unknown. For more about the TanDEM-X spacecraft, visit their website here.

  1. Ok First and foremost, Falcon Field has a Military AH64 Helicopter repair facility.

    http://helihub.com/2016/04/11/us-army-orders-117-ah-64e-apaches-in-922m-contract/

Plus there are a ton of aircraft that fly slow over Mesa AZ. Happens every night. Plus there are Military Chinook and AH60 Helo’s that fly over head towards the air field near the Phoenix Zoo, and fly East towards Douglas and Marana. They do exercises to the West and South of Globe Arizona all the time. I have seen F16’s and other military aircraft do some fly overs near Oak Flats Campground to the East of Superior. I have seen them even dogfight in the same area. Plus there are some National Guard Training facilities in Florence AZ.

So these could have easily been some military Chinooks flying in formation. Plus there are a ton of aircraft in the Mesa, and Phoenix Area. Large aircraft take off from Skyharbor and Phoenix Mesa Gateway.

So I doubt that this is a UFO. More than likely it’s an aircraft.

  2. I’ve seen this particular craft several times over the past 20 years, or one similar. Most I’ve seen are over the Superstition mtns. They can disappear from one spot, and appear in another, adjust brightness, or go dark. They mostly maintain what I like to call a low satellite type observation orbit. In some cases, there can be several.

This is my first ever post post on a site like this.

  3. Ryan, who posted the debunking comment above, was NOT there. Readers should disregard his remarks.
Egotists like Ryan believe they can better explain what a witness has seen, better than the witness.

  4. Observed 2 bright orange lights when driving west on Chandler Blvd towards Home Depot at Alma School Rd intersection. The lights were almost stationary below/in front a large thunder cloud and showed no blinking lights like an airplane would. They then disappeared into the dark cloud after about 8-10 minutes. Both lights moved together very very slow north.

  5. I saw almost exactly the same thing on Thanksgiving night, 2014. I was located in Lake County, Ill, about 40 miles north of Chicago, and looking south. The lights seemed to be miles away, unknown height (I was in a suburban neighborhood, with trees, houses, etc., and the lights were well above them), and they moved in tandem, like the video here, but one was slightly ahead of the other. Also, they were moving from the east to to the west at a perfectly level altitude and at a steady pace. No flashing lights, and an orange-gold color that never changed. They kind of shined, like beebees — but it was about 9:30 – 10:00pm at night, and nothing was casting any light that they could be reflecting. The sky was cloudy — no stars viisible, but you could see the hazy moon. These things really stood out. I was with a relative who also saw them, but didn’t think they were anything special. (She thought I was nuts saying, “Look! UFOs!”) O’Hare Airport would have been about 30 miles south of where I was, but I’m pretty sure these were not planes. No navigation lights that I could see, just the shiny orange-gold, and their flight was level altitude and due west, not lowering or circling as though to land. I watched them for about 5 minutes, until they passed out of my sight range due to surrounding buildings. I’ll look up that German satellite thing.

  6. I keep a pretty open mind about everything. At least I try to. I had an experience that I can’t explain and to this day I am not sure what I saw but a good friend of mine and I were coming home late one night and we were driving on the freeway about to take our exit to head home. I noticed something in the sky that I had never seen before and it was too big to be anything I have ever seen created here and I yelled for my buddy to look up and we just sat there looking up at this super large thing floating in the air above us. That wasn’t even the crazy part about it though because no sooner did the both of us get a look at this thing and I blink and it’s just gone. Nothing was there. We were pretty freaked out about it but it was still pretty cool to see something we couldn’t explain.

  7. I saw these exact same lights about a year ago in Aberdeen, Washington on my front porch. I found the same exact lights in a video in Mexico after searching tons of UFO videos for years. This is exactly what I saw. It’s interesting to me that it looks like a pulsar would look. An advanced race of beings might use this as a propulsion system if they knew how to harness it’s power.

  8. As to a comment above. I worked at the Mesa Boeing plant for three years building the AH-64 Apache Helicopter. The Chinook does not or has never flew to or from the plant. There is no such thing as an AH-60 aircraft. There is a H-60 Sikorsky Blackhawk aircraft but one has never been reported at the plant. Falcon Field is right across the road but is a very small civilian airport. The closet military base is Williams-Gateway and they do get Military traffic. I am still in the Aerospace Industry working in the Ordnance/Avionics Field. I build weapons so these were not flares. As far as the two red lights. As per the FAA you are supposed to have one Red light on the Left side and one Green Light on the right side. The other flashing red lights are Anti-Collision lights. One on top and one on the bottom but they flash. My video shows no flashing lights. I have worked on a lot of different military and civilian aircraft including their weapons and have been in the Aviation Community for 38-years. Mufon, my other Aviation Friends and I don’t know what this is.
