Blackwell, Oklahoma, 1967
In part one of this series, we examined three specific cases which originated directly from the MUFON and CUFOS case file archives. In this follow up article, three additional cases will be examined, including the appropriate paperwork which helps to authenticate each encounter. In May of 1967, a resident of the southeast section of Blackwell Oklahoma was returning home around 9:00 PM (computer illustration depicted in daytime for clarity). The witness looked towards the eastern horizon, and sighted what he originally thought to be a bright star. Then, the object made an abrupt descent, and parked itself approximately 500 feet above the ground (this immediately rules out any type of hot air balloon or blimp).
The upper portion of the craft appeared to be silver or light grey in color, and measured approximately one football field wide (see original newspaper article above). A “gondola” was identified below the large circular section of the vehicle. This “observation” area of the craft had protrusions which appeared to be flashing blue and white lights. One square section of the gondola appeared to be open revealing an interior room which was filled with a “green colored gas”. The craft was completely silent as it moved southeast toward Ponca City.
Redford Township (a suburb of Detroit), Michigan, 1967
During the summer of 1967 (no month given in report), two 14 year old boys spotted a large circular object over Redford Township (a suburb of Detroit). The sighting lasted about two minutes in length at approximately 9:30 PM (illustration depicted in a modern city setting during the daytime for clarity). The craft was described as measuring 100 feet in diameter, and 30 feet thick (see AutoCAD drawing based from original sketch below). The witnesses described seeing a revolving band of lights rotating in a clockwise manner (as viewed from above). According to the official NICAP report below, the craft departed at a terrific rate of speed.
Dana Point, California, 1976
In early December of 1976, a mother and her two children were driving west on Blue Lantern street (near Dana Point California) around 7:30 PM, when they saw a huge brightly lit rotating object approach, and hover ahead of their vehicle (illustration depicted in daytime for clarity). The craft, which was described as a “fat Frisbee”, had a single flashing red light on top. The witnesses described seeing thousands of randomly flashing “computer lights” along the circumference of the vehicle, which filled up half their field of view through the windshield (see original article and illustration below). The craft was silent, during the entire sighting, which lasted between three and five minutes. The craft made two 90 degree turns, and sped away west towards the ocean. At the lower right section of the newspaper clipping reproduced below, two interesting findings were highlighted.
Evaluation: “Closeness, duration, silence and multiple witnesses rule out conventional explanations”.
