Jones is well aware of the controversial online video and has commented on it in his blog. Shepherd makes note of that when he asked Jones about his thoughts on the UFO video in question. Jones told Shepherd:

 On every mission you see lots of debris that is released from the shuttle’s payload bay, or frozen propellant from the main engines or the thrusters that drifts along with you, in some cases for several days after you arrive in orbit. And so that little cloud of particles gets captured by the low light TV cameras on the space shuttle that are used by the ground controllers at night, and when those wind up on video, and if you don’t know the context for when those pictures were taken, those little particles might seem to you like distant stars or moving objects in space. The video I have seen in STS-80 is just that. It’s the low light TV camera capturing those ice particles in the very near field, only 10 or 20 feet away, and in the camera view they look like they are flashing, in fact they are just tumbling little ice flakes.

When asked about other astronauts who have had UFO sightings, Jones replied:

A number of people have seen things they can’t explain and therefore by definition it is a UFO, but what it really is, is unknown. Some people think they are spaceships, I don’t, but most of them, I think, under careful analysis are explainable like the ones on STS-80. I don’t think I have heard of anybody, in the astronaut corps, who has ever seen anything that they thought was unexplained.

Well, if Jones hasn’t, movie director J.J. Abrams has. In a recent video interview with NASA astronauts, Abrams claimed that an astronaut had told him that he had seen something “really strange” that led the astronaut to believe in extraterrestrial life.

As for STS-80, take a look at the video below and decide for yourself whether you believe the objects to be ice flakes, or something else.

Simon Pegg tweeted that he felt responsible for the imprisonment of a Chinese man who recently hoaxed an alien encounter that went viral. The hoaxer, Li Kai, says he was partially inspired by the movie, Paul, written by, and starring, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

The movie is a comedy that features an alien that has busted out of Area 51. The alien, named Paul, happens upon two British comic book enthusiasts touring U.S. UFO sites and going to the San Diego Comic-Con.

Pegg shouldn’t feel too bad, Kai told police he was also inspired by the idea that he may be able to get more people to believe in aliens. He said, “It is still disputed whether or not UFOs and aliens exist but we believe they do. We want to expand our group and make more people believe that aliens do exist.”

It all began when Kai posted on a blog that he had encountered five aliens on the banks of China’s Yellow river. He said one of the aliens was killed by an electric fence that had been set up to catch wild rabbits. He stored the alien in his freezer, and reported the incident to police.

His pictures then went viral when they were reported by Chinese news. According to ITN, even though he had called police three months prior, after the event went viral they decided to interview him. He confessed to creating the alien out of wire, ropes, rubber and glue.

Lee was placed into detention for five days for fabricating lies and disrupting normal social order.

A woman in the town of Bromley, a suburb of London, has sent a local newspaper a photograph of a UFO she took on April 27. She says the object looked very large and was also witnessed by her daughter.

The News Shopper says the witness chose to remain anonymous and reports that early in the morning of April 27, at approximately 2:30 am, she was awoken by a loud noise. She said, “It didn’t sound like a plane, it didn’t sound like a helicopter.”

She went to her bedroom window where she says, “…in the distance I could see a big aircraft with all these lights.”

She continued:

I couldn’t make out the shape of whatever it was but I could see it was quite a large because the lights were so far apart. I tried to get my husband up but he didn’t take any notice. My daughter got up and she said she saw this big circular thing with all these lights. I don’t know whether there is another type of aircraft we don’t know about, but it just didn’t look like anything I have ever seen before.

The witness told the News Shopper that she believes the object passed within around 200 feet of her window, and flew above the rooftops of the homes in her neighborhood.

She says, “It was a strange ship because of where the lights were. It was not normal.”

Christian Ubillus, a professional cameraman for Peruvian television network Frecuencia Latina Channel 2, recorded ten minutes of footage of the UFO, which was later aired on the network’s program 90 Segundos. The object was reportedly seen by several witnesses, and, as International Business Times points out, the UFO “was described as a ‘Jelly Fish’ and kept changing its shape.”

The Peruvian blog Nuestro Pasado Extraterrestre describes the UFO as resembling “a string of balloons,” and points out that it is very similar to the EBANI (Entidad Biological Anomalous No Identificada, or its English translation, Unidentified Anomalous Biological Entity) phenomenon predominantly seen in Latin America. Peruvian UFO researcher Mario Zegarra also mentioned the EBANI theory to 90 Segundos.
EBANIs are presumed to be biologic creatures because of their apparent intelligent movement. This UFO over Lima is reportedly the first time an EBANI has been seen in Peru.

90 Segundos asserts that Peru is the third largest country for UFO sightings in the world after the U.S. and Mexico.
