A student in Taiwan claimed he missed class because he was abducted by aliens.

A student at the National University of Tainan (a city in southern Taiwan) recently missed class for two hours. And while a student missing class isn’t that strange, the excuse he offered is.

The student filed an application with the school’s administration to be excused from his December 15 absence. According to the China Post, the student listed on his application the reason for his absence as “being snatched away by aliens.” He alleged that he was “held hostage and taken away by aliens from an unnamed planet.” Surprisingly, the university approved the application the following day.

Word spread quickly, drawing the attention of local media. Following media inquiries, the student reportedly filed an amended application, citing “discomfort” as the reason for his absence. This new application was approved by the school immediately “in order to put the whole event aside as early as possible.”

The student has since stated that his original claim of an alien abduction was done simply for fun.

What do you think? Did the student change his story to avoid media attention? Did someone force him to change his story? Or do you believe the student was simply goofing around, as he claims?

Gizmodo reporter Jesus Dias published a story on Saturday, November 13 about multiple mysterious formations in the Chinese desert

Gizmodo reporter Jesus Dias published a story on Saturday, November 13 about multiple mysterious formations in the Chinese desert.

Strange lines (credit: Google)

The strange surface features and mysterious structures are visible using Google Maps. The first oddity pointed out by Dias is a series of wide, white lines. These lines are located in “Dunhuang, Jiuquan, Gansu, north of the Shule River, which crosses the Tibetan Plateau to the west into the Kumtag Desert,” according to Dias. This formation reportedly covers an area approximately one mile long by more than 3,000 feet wide. Dias mentions that the “tracks are perfectly executed, and they seem to be designed to be seen from orbit.” He goes on to speculate, “Perhaps it’s some kind of targeting or calibrating grid for Chinese spy satellites? Maybe it’s a QR code for aliens? Nobody really knows.”

Another similar pattern of lines is located approximately 20 miles west of the first pattern.

More strange lines (credit: Google)

There is yet another pattern of mysterious lines that can be seen using Google Maps. This pattern is completely different from the first two linear patterns, however. Consisting of thousands of lines, this pattern seems to form a massive grid. These grid lines are displayed in two massive strips that intersect each other perpendicularly. The vertical line is approximately one mile wide by a whopping 20 miles long. The horizontal line is approximately one mile wide by 30 miles long. The northern most point of the vertical line reaches within 10 miles of the Mongolian border.

Grid of lines (credit: Google)

This same grid pattern is visible in several locations in nearby areas. But in some locations, the pattern varies, combining zig-zag lines with straight lines.

Zig-zag lines (credit: Google)

Approximately three miles west of the second pattern of lines I mentioned is a strange, circle formation that appears to be intentionally arranged in some sort of code pattern. There are airplanes positioned within this pattern.

Airplanes in the middle of a coded message? (credit: Google)

Dias describes another code-like formation in the area as looking like “some kind of giant targeting grid.” Destroyed vehicles are within this grid, which opens the door to the possibility of space-based weaponry testing.

Grid with destroyed vehicles (credit: Google)

Another mysterious surface feature in the nearby area is what appears to be some kind of airfield. But a couple of the structures that could be runways appear to either be water, or a strange blue material, which makes this “runway” highly visible–something that could come in handy to visitors from space trying to locate a landing location. But there is something else strange about this airfield. In a couple of locations near the airfield, there are dozens of what appear to be impact marks, some that include signs of charring. If this is indeed an airfield, then either the pilots landing there are very clumsy, or, like with the previously mentioned “targeting grid” formation, these could be signs of space-based weaponry.

An airfield? (credit: Google)

So what is the explanation for all of these bizarre formations in China? Are they all related? Do they indicate that China is sending coded messages to space? Do they prove that China is testing space-based weapons? Or are glitches with Google’s satellite causing some very strange, yet highly detailed, photo abnormalities? The real answer is unknown at this time. But these are, without a doubt, some very puzzling formations.

What do you think about these strange images from Google Maps?

According to New Tang Dynasty Television, a witness stated, “I feel curious about the object. I don’t know what it is. It can’t move like a plane and can change color into green and red alternatively.”

But the UFOs were later identified as large kites equipped with hundreds of colored LED lights. The video below shows the incredible light show put on by these kites, and also shows how witnesses would have difficulty identifying the object in the night sky.

Three clips of UFOs allegedly filmed in Guangzhou, China have appeared on the Internet recently, all showing the objects' detailed structures.

This story originally appeared on The Epoch Times website, and is being reposted here as part of a new partnership between The Epoch Times and OpenMinds.tv.

First Video: UFO Filmed From Bus 582

Three clips of UFOs allegedly filmed in Guangzhou, China have appeared on the Internet recently, all showing the objects’ detailed structures.

The first video was reportedly filmed from bus 582, with no date given, the second by a resident in Cencun on Aug. 6, 2010. The latest one was filmed above a canal in Cencun, allegedly on Aug. 30, just a few days ago. The scene in that one was chaotic, with people screaming in the background.

Many believe the videos are fake because the footage is too clear, as if watching scenes from a science fiction movie. The UFOs’ three-dimensional structures are apparent with corresponding variation in sound as their respective distances from the camera vary.

The Chinese who analyzed the video online in slow motion identifies himself as a film and television post-producer, and gives four arguments against the possibility that it is man-made:

1. The lens fluency and the optical illusions are perfect. The craft, horizon, and the cameraman are in a reasonable perspective while zooming in. The relationship between the streaks and the front and rear of the window reflection, several times out of focus, cannot be simulated through post-production, he said.

2. The synthesis of the foreground and background has no flaws, especially as the craft flies past a street light. Even Hollywood’s special effects experts cannot deal with this material without a blue screen and the result would be low-quality—there would be jagged, and different colored trails. After carefully observing the joint of the street lamp and the craft by zooming in, there is no apparent flaw at all.

3. The change of focus and the transition of lights are natural and impeccable. Creating such effects would require specialized software, equipment, and professional knowledge. Also, the lighting of the craft and the setting appear quite natural.

4. The crafts’ shape, structure, material, texture, and movement are extremely realistic, comparable to the Imperial Star Cruiser in Star Wars. In the last video, as the craft leaves the scene, the devices at its base suddenly light up as it speeds up.

The Chinese expert concludes that there are no apparent traces of man-made objects or post-production processing in the video. He said, to put it simply, if Chinese people can produce videos of such quality, Hollywood would have lost its monopoly on creating science fiction movies.

However, there are various discrepancies, for example in the first video, there is no shadow or reflection on the ground or window. The footage conveniently blurs out when the UFO goes behind the lamp post. Also the real objects like posts and trees in the background have image echoes due to the movement of the camera, whereas the UFO does not.

Second Video: UFO Filmed From Rental House in Cencun

Regarding the second video, a netizen commented that its special effects are too complicated for laypeople to produce in a short time. For instance, white lights appeared when the UFO moved suddenly, and the rotation speeds of its lower and its upper parts are different.

There are several difficulties:

1. The sudden appearance of lights as the craft speeds up look real and are hard to produce.

2. The process of the lens going from blurred to clear when changing focus.

3. The humming sound of the craft is irregular—not just the difference in the sounds closer to and further away from the lens, but also in the three seconds when the craft is nearest to the camera.

To achieve such a three-dimensional effect requires professional knowledge of sound recording and 3-D film effects.

“It’s hard for me to imagine that a person who lives in such a shabby rental house could produce such special effects,” the netizen said.

Third Video: UFO Filmed Over Canal in Cencun

In the third video, the craft’s structure is very clear with a humming sound changing from far to near. It goes out of focus, then it flies over the camera. The process is natural and the light matches the light of the environment. It is hard to imagine someone making so much effort to create such a high quality 3-D work, the netizen said.

However, the UFO’s reflection does not have the same sharpness as the other reflections in the water and is not rippled in the same manner. The reflection appears to be incorrectly placed in relation to the perspective.

Using a satellite map, an Epoch Times reporter in China located two waterways similar to the scene in Cencun. He called nearby residents, but no one knew anything about the incident.

Presently, the authenticity of these three videos cannot be verified.

China’s media had a busy month with credible UFO sightings and dubious UFO videos.

Jiangbei Airport was shut down for an hour on August 17, 2011 due to UFO sightings. (image credit: Holiday China Tour)

China’s media had a busy month with credible UFO sightings and dubious UFO videos. UFOs shut down an airport and were sighted by pilots from Shanghai to Beijing. As if on cue, or perhaps as a result of the UFO media coverage, videos started popping up. The question is: Are they real, or just people making hoaxed video to take advantage of the UFO focus?

According to Fox News, on Wednesday, August 17, UFO reports caused a major airport in the city Chongqing, China to divert flights. Witnesses reported a round glowing object circling Jiangbei International Airport for nearly 50 minutes. Some have speculated that the object was a hot air balloon or a Chinese lantern. However, there has been no official statement as to what the object really was.

Last summer, on July 7, a similar incident took place which garnered international media attention. Xiaoshan airport in Hangzhou, China was closed for an hour due to UFO sightings. Although the media misreported much of the event, the core story was based off of pilots and passengers who saw a mysterious light over the airport when landing. Like this year’s event in Chongqing, there was never an official answer as to what the object was. One writer speculated that it could be very wealthy pilots who often fly into airport unannounced.

One of several pictures taken of the glowing ball of light over Shanghai on August 20, 2011.

On August 20, another spectacular sighting was reported by several pilots in Shanghai. They described a ball of light that was thousands of meters above the city that grew until is faded out and disappeared. The object was described as several times larger than the moon and estimated to be 92 kilometers wide before it vanished. At the same time, the same object was reported above Beijing.

Another one of the several photographs taken of the UFO over Shanghai on August 20,2011.

There were hundreds if not thousands of witnesses, many of them astronomers. Some have speculated that it could be caused by rocket launches, or chemicals emitted by some other device, such as a satellite. It is unclear whether the witnesses in Beijing and Shanghai were witnessing the same phenomenon. The two cities are over 500 miles apart.

Wang Sichao

Planetary astronomer, Wang Sichao, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Purple Mountain Observatory, said “this object could be a special spacecraft that can hardly be explained with current aircraft technology.” Sichao is no novice when it comes to UFO sightings. He has been investigating the phenomenon for decades.

All of this excitement has been keeping Chinese news sites buzzing about UFOs, and in the midst of the hype several alleged UFO videos have appeared. The one which has gotten the most mileage is alleged to have been taken in Guangzhou. The video is only 30 seconds long and shows an object hovering over a lake. According to one report, the video has gotten over 4 million views on China’s most popular video sharing site, and was the eighth most searched for item on China’s most popular search engine yesterday. A recent report on the video says the hoaxer has confessed and apologized for the deception.

Incidentally, late last year Sichao made headlines when he predicted that there could be an increase in UFO sightings in China. He told the Beijing Review: “It does not mean large numbers of UFOs but refers to events of credible facts backed by observation. But these facts cannot yet be explained by existing scientific knowledge or natural phenomena.”

Without official explanations as to what has been seen over Chongqing, Shanghai and Beijing, Sichao’s statements have borne out to be spot-on.

This is another demonstration of how active this field is on a regular basis.

Why are we writing a story about the year in review when it is already the first week of March? Well, that is because we just wrapped up the 2011 International UFO Congress (IUFOC), and to start things off we reviewed the past year’s UFO news stories beginning from last February, the date of the last IUFOC.

A lot has happened in the last year. We couldn’t include everything, because we were trying to keep the video to less than 15 minutes, but we packed in a lot. It is another demonstration of how active this field is on a regular basis.

Note: One book that is not in the video which I have written about quite a bit, and thoroughly enjoyed is A.D.: After Disclosure. In the frenzy to get everything ready for the conference somehow I left it out. However, there are other books I left out also. If you feel there is a story or book that I left out that you think needs attention, feel free to comment below so others can be aware.

there are a record number of UFO scientific and community-based organizations in China.

Sun Shili (credit: The Canadian)

The Canadian reports that Chinese scientists believe aliens currently walk among humans. One of these alleged believers is Sun Shili, a retired foreign ministry official and current president of the Beijing UFO Research Society. The newspaper also mentions Shen Shituan, a rocket scientist, president of Beijing Aerospace University and honorary director of the China UFO Research Association, who says, “All these phenomena are worth researching.”

Izvestia, a daily Russian newspaper, reports that there are a record number of UFO scientific and community-based organizations in China. The actions of these organizations are reportedly protected by the National Society of the Extraterrestrial Studies, which is financed by the Chinese government. According to The Canadian, “Only professional scientists and engineers are allowed [to be] members in the Society. A person [is] also required to have [a] Ph.D. in science and have several published works about UFOs. About a third of all members of the society are also members of the Government of China.”

This is yet another example of a government acknowledging the reality of the UFO phenomenon.

This is the space program’s latest milestone in their push to put a man on the moon in 2017.

This latest mission will use the probe to test technology and photograph possible landing sites in preparation for an unmanned lunar landing planned for 2012. According to the Xinhua News Agency, Chang’e II will circle 62 miles above the moon’s surface before moving into orbit just 9 miles above the lunar surface.

The Chang’e II probe, named after a legendary Chinese moon goddess, is scheduled for a six-month mission. At the end of six months, the probe will either be sent further into space, moved into orbit around Earth, or will land on the moon as a test for the 2012 landing.
