More alien-themed movies on the way

Hollywood shows no signs of slowing its assembly line-like manufacturing of extraterrestrial-themed movies. Several alien-themed movies are scheduled to be released in 2011, and even more continue to be announced on an almost regular basis. Regency Enterprises is currently producing a film called The Darkest Hour—a film about a group of kids in Russia who struggle to survive after an alien invasion. Jon Spaihts wrote the screenplay for this movie, but he also wrote screenplays for two other alien-themed movies currently in production: Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (originally planned as a prequel to Scott’s Alien movie), and a Jerry Bruckheimer space adventure movie, a film about which little information has been released.

The depiction of hostile extraterrestrials unfortunately continues to be a common theme in Hollywood’s movies—even in animated movies targeted towards children.

Here are just a few of the upcoming movie release dates:

I Am Number Four – February 18, 2011
Battle: Los Angeles – March 11, 2011
Mars Needs Moms – March 11, 2011
