Venezuela’s socialist President (or should I say “dictator”?) Hugo Chavez thinks he knows why we haven’t found life on Mars. During a speech on Tuesday, Chavez stated, “I have always said, heard, that it would not be strange that there had been civilization on Mars, but maybe capitalism arrived there, imperialism arrived and finished off the planet.” His comments aren’t too shocking however, as Chavez has repeatedly blamed many of Earth’s problems on capitalism.

This statement was made during a speech Chavez delivered on Tuesday at a World Water Day event in Venezuela.

According to Fox News, this isn’t the first time Chavez has referred to life on Mars.

The red planet has been in the news lately for various efforts underway that will make future missions to Mars possible.
